Practical Training
Since the first days of driving instruction, hands-on training has been the basis of any lesson given in teaching driving. Because car driving is a practical skill, practical training is an integral part of anyone's experience in learning to drive.
Believing in the importance of hands-on training, the Eastern Province Driving Academy requires a minimum of 22 hours of actual training on a real car supervised by highly trained and professional female driving instructors. This training is conducted in two phases; yard training and road training.
Yard Training
The hands-on training begins in an enclosed field (yard) with no other cars. In this yard, the trainee acquires basic driving skills such as maneuvering the car, different types of parking and other basic driving skills. The yard training consists of 6 hours of training.
Road Training
Following yard training, the trainee goes through intensive training in actual driving on the roads. The trainee drives the car in the streets and roads with the presence of other vehicles and pedestrians and hence learns through this training the basics of dealing with other vehicles.
The road training continues for 16 hours of on routes supervised by a highly trained and experienced driving instructress. This training is followed with the practical test that measures 16 basic driving skills and also measures the trainee's compliance with traffic rules and safety principles on the road.
Passing this test will qualify the trainee to obtain a driving license in Saudi Arabia from the General Department of Traffic.
Theory Lecture
Theoretical lectures are a very important part of a driver's training. Through these lectures, the trainee acquires the most important information about safe driving on the road. This information helps the future driver make the right decisions while driving and consequently, preserving the lives of others. Through these lectures, the trainee also learns traffic regulations and road rules in Saudi Arabia.
Several research studies have shown that the theoretical part of driving instruction contributes significantly to reducing the accidents experienced during the first years of driving. Especially if the emphasis is on traffic safety rules and the right decision-making skills in different situations that the driver is exposed to on the road on a daily basis. Most developed countries have taken note of the importance of this part of training and have made it an essential part of obtaining a driver's license.
At the Eastern Province Driving Academy, we make sure to equip the trainee with all the necessary scientific and technical skills to make her experience in driving a safe and enjoyable one. The first part of this qualification comprises the theoretical lectures. This essential part of the training consists of 6 theoretical lectures (for a beginner course), each of which lasts an hour, covering the following topics:
Lecture Topics
-
Lecture 1: Attitude and Responsibilities
-
Lecture 2: Traffic signs
-
Lecture 3: Managing Risks
-
Lecture 4: Driver Condition
-
Lecture 5: Driving Environment
-
Lecture 6: Rules of the Road
Upon the completion of the six lectures, the basic information acquired by the trainee is tested through the theoretical test. Passing this test is a prerequisite for starting the next phase of training.
Simulator Training
Simulation lessons are considered the latest technology used in driving instruction. Following their extensive use in aircraft instruction, research and scientific studies found that their use in teaching driving also reduces accidents of trainees and helps them overcome the initial fear of driving a car for the first time.
Simulation lessons are conducted using a device that simulates real car driving and consists of all the parts that make up a car interior such as the car seat, steering wheel, dashboard, power switch, and safety belt. The passenger is surrounded by screens displaying a virtual reality that simulates a large number of scenarios that the driver may experience in different weather and geographic conditions. The device gives instructions to the passenger in an interactive manner and provides feedback on the driver's skill and also an explanation of the mistakes she made while driving.
Due to the importance of simulation courses in the trainees' attainment of road skills, and also in helping them overcome the fear of driving, the Eastern Province Driving Academy has been keen to install the most advanced simulators to train those who want to learn driving. The simulation classes follow the trainee's success in the theoretical test. They consist of two hours of training on a large number of different scenarios that help the trainee acquire the basic skills in driving.
